How to watch the Daytime Emmys: Catch the 49th Awards Ceremony wherever you are in the world

The Emmys are back to give daytime TV its dues – here's how to watch

The 49th Daytime Emmys – a celebration of the crème de la crème of daytime TV – are upon us. The 2022 ceremony, held by the National Academy of Television Arts & Sciences, will be taking place on Friday 24 June. Some of the awards have already been dished out, including a whopping five gongs to The Kelly Clarkson Show (remember her, millennials?). Meanwhile, streaming giant Netflix walked away with nine trophies, including one for Marie Kondo’s Sparking Joy.

The Daytime Emmys will be aired live on CBS, premiering at 9pm Eastern Time and 6pm Pacific Time (or 2am British Summer Time on Saturday 25 June).

If you’re not able to watch CBS live, the ceremony will stream on Paramount+, a US-based streaming platform that supports on-demand and live content from a host of US channels. As of Wednesday 22 June Paramount+ will be available for free to a selection of Sky customers in the UK. If you’re not part of that lucky roster, you’ll still be able to subscribe to Paramount+ for £6.99/mth. And if you’re an existing or soon-to-be Paramount+ customer wanting to access your account from abroad, you’ll be able to watch the streaming service using a VPN.

Read on for our guide to watching the 49th Daytime Emmy Awards, wherever you are in the world.

How to watch the Daytime Emmys: CBS

American TV network CBS will air the 49th Daytime Emmy Awards live at 9pm ET and 6pm PT on Friday 24 June. If you’re in the UK, that’s 2am BST on Saturday 25 June.

There are two caveats to bear in mind: if you’re located outside of the US, or if you’re not available at the program’s start time, you’ll struggle to watch the Daytime Emmys on CBS. Thank goodness, as ever, for streaming platforms…

How to watch the Daytime Emmys: Paramount+

…such as US-based streaming service Paramount+, which will be streaming the Daytime Emmys for TV aficionados to catch up on. Paramount+, which launched in 2014, is primarily available in the US, though is soon to hit UK shores.

From Wednesday 22 June, UK-dwellers will be able to subscribe to Paramount+ on all major streaming devices (including Roku, Amazon Fire TV, Sky Q and Sky Glass) for just £6.99/mth, gaining access to a host of big-name TV shows and films.

What’s more, the subscription fee has been waived for lucky Sky Cinema customers with either Sky Q or Sky Glass, who will get free bonus access to the Paramount+ and its library of content. That’s not to say you need to be a Sky customer to sign up to Paramount+ in the UK. The platform is billed as a standalone streaming service, so you can sign up to it independently of Sky.

How to watch the Daytime Emmys: ExpressVPN

If you’re abroad and want to access your Paramount+ account, you may find it’s been geo-blocked if you’re outside a particular region. If you’re looking to maintain access to Paramount+ content while travelling, your best bet is a VPN, or virtual private network. Here’s our choice of two of the best for streaming.

ExpressVPN: our top choice for streaming, ExpressVPN works well with a host of platforms and offers some best-in-class download speeds to boot. Features like a kill switch (to shut off your device’s internet access if connection to the VPN’s server drops) and split tunnelling (which enable you to channel some apps through your VPN, others through your normal connection) make it worth the slightly higher price tag. Expert Reviews readers can claim our exclusive offer, which gets you 15 months of ExpressVPN for just £74.03 (or £4.94/mth).

NordVPN: alternatively, NordVPN offers rival speeds, an intuitive and easy-to-navigate interface and boasts over 5,500 servers in 60 countries, so there’s bound to be one to meet your specific needs. Security-wise, it’s stellar: a kill switch prevents the VPN from accidentally revealing any activity to your ISP, and an independently audited privacy policy reinforces its security-first ethos.
