Sky to launch updated Now TV box later this year

Sky Now TV box

Sky's latest financial report lets slip its intention to launch a next generation Now TV Box in 2015

Sky has hinted that a new and improved Now TV Box could be due later this year. In its latest financial report which was announced this morning, Sky mentions that it’s planning to launch a “next-generation Now TV Box” in its 2015 slides for Now TV.

While exact details on what’s inside the box are currently unknown, Sky says it will “upgrade [the] user interface and experience” in order to “leverage [its] best ever content line-up”, suggesting that it will be offering even more films and TV shows than ever before. There’s also a possibility that it will finally show content in Full HD, which currently isn’t available on the Now TV Box in its current form. It also seems like the upgraded box will be accompanied by a large ad campaign to help promote the new service.

Now TV is Sky’s current catch-up and on-demand service for non-Sky customers. While you can access it through a dedicated set-top box, it’s also available on a range of other platforms, including Roku media streamers, Android, iOS, LG smart TVsPS4 and Xbox One, PC and Mac. There are three main subscription packages on offer. The Entertainment Pass, which gives you access to the all-important Sky Atlantic, Sky 1, Sky Living and a host of other channels, costs £6.99 a month while the Sky Movies Pass costs £9.99 a month.

Sky Sports, on the other hand, is split into two distinct bundles. You can either get a day pass for £6.99, or a week pass for £10.99. The great thing about Now TV, though, is that there are no contracts tied to any of these services, so you can cancel each bundle as and when you like and you’re not tied in to them for any set length of time.
