The Fitbit Versa 2 is just £156 at Amazon

One of our favourite wearables is tempting value with £44 off

The Fitbit Versa 2 is one of the nicest things I’ve ever put on my wrist. It looks stylish, has plenty of functionality and doesn’t need charging all that often. But its RRP of £200 feels a touch optimistic for a wearable that doesn’t pack in GPS.

With nearly a quarter off the price, it’s quite a bit more tempting, and that’s what Amazon is offering today. As part of the company’s big week of sales, the Fitbit Versa 2 in its Amazon-exclusive ‘Bordeaux’ colour scheme can be on your wrist for just £155.99. Or five monthly payments of £31.20 if that’s easier to justify.

So, what’s so great about the Fitbit Versa 2? Well, just as I can’t really sum up my reasons for liking the way Pixel phones ‘feel’, I have similar feelings for the Fitbit Versa 2. It’s just a combination of great design decisions that have been refined since the original Versa.

So yes, it looks great, the UI is simple and intuitive, it’s comfortable for extended wear, notifications come through with just the right amount of fuss, and the Fitbit community is, of course, one of the most heavily populated to keep you on track. But somehow it feels more than the sum of these individually excellent parts.

There are certainly elements that could be improved. The lack of GPS is a bit of a kick in the teeth at full price – though a lot more forgivable at £156 – and while the addition of Alexa certainly doesn’t detract from things, I’d question how much easier it is to talk to your watch for a short, text-based answer than it is to just pull out your phone and search for yourself.

But if it gets to the point when my main quibble is an additional feature that I don’t really use, then you can see I’m grasping at straws a little. The other big addition for the Versa 2 over the original – an always-on OLED screen – is worth paying the extra for on its own.

If you absolutely need GPS on the wrist, I’d suggest buying the feature-packed Garmin Vivoactive 3 for £15 less, but for casual fitness fans the Fitbit Versa 2 is hard to beat. Especially at this price.
