Sony Xperia 2 leak reveals details about specs, size and more

Can we expect more of the same, but smaller?

A major new leak has shed some light on the mysterious Sony Xperia 2. Despite a potential release date as soon as this week, not much has been said about Sony’s new phone.

However, documents published by WinFuture have changed that and we now have a pretty good idea what the next Sony Xperia phone will look like.

Rendered images show that the Xperia 2 looks a lot like its predecessor, but there are two fairly significant changes. The first being that its three cameras appear to be situated on the left side of the phone, rather than the middle. The leaks also show the new Sony Xperia in shades of blue, back and red, with a fingerprint scanner mounted on the side.

The other significant change is the size. While it’s not easy to tell from the leaked images, the source claims that the size of the device has shrunk to 6.1in – 0.4in smaller than the Xperia 1.

This would be surprising, considering the ongoing trend of releasing larger phones with larger screens, were it not for Sony’s history of producing compact counterparts to their flagship handsets – like the Xperia XZ3 and 4.

It could also mean that when the phone eventually launches, it’s not branded as the Xperia 2 at all. Instead, it could be a compact version of the original Sony Xperia 1 or even an Xperia spin-off.

Either way, it’s still highly likely this will be Sony’s next flagship. Alongside the leaked images, the source suggests the new Sony Xperia will have 128GB internal storage, 6GB RAM and a Snapdragon 855 chipset.

It looks like the triple-lens camera will be the same as on the Xperia 1, with one standard, one wide angle, and one telephoto lens. The source also revealed that we should probably expect a dedicated camera button and selfie snapper too.

While these leaks are very, very convincing, there’s been no official confirmation as of yet. However, we may not have to wait long at all to find out how legit these leaks are, as it’s likely Sony will reveal the Xpera 2 at IFA 2019, which starts this week, 6 September in Berlin, Germany.
