Apple iMac 2012

The new Apple iMac (2012) will go on sale in the UK on the 30th of November

The new Apple iMac (2012) will be available in the UK from the 30th of November, bringing with it a new design, improved specifications and a hybrid storage system known as the Fusion Drive.

First unveiled in October, along with a 13in Retina MacBook Pro, the iPad Mini and refreshed versions of the iPad and Mac Mini, the 2012 iMac is thinner than ever: it’s just 5mm thick around the edges, with most of the electronics moved to the centre of its contoured rear bezel.

There will be two models to choose from: an entry-level 21.5in and a more expensive 27in, with the smaller size launching first on November the 30th. Apple has yet to announce a firm date for the 27in, only going as far to say it would start shipping in December.

New Apple iMac Specs

The 21.5in iMac will be available with a 2.7GHz quad-core Intel Core i5 processor, with Turbo Boost speeds up to 3.2GHz and Nvidia GeForce GT 640M graphics. Customer update options include a faster 2.9GHz Core i5 CPU and Nvidia GeForce GT 650M graphics, which will bump the price up from £1,099 to £1,249 including VAT.

Alternatively, the 27in iMac will be available with a 2.9GHz Core i5 and Nvidia GeForce GT660M graphics as standard, for a base price of £1,499. Upgrades include a 3.2GHz quad-core Core i5 and Nvidia GeForce GTX 675MX graphics, which will raise the price to £1,699 including VAT.

For storage, Apple has combined a 128GB SSD with either a 1TB or 3TB hard disk to create a hybrid drive which splits file loads with the SSD to keep things fast. Both models will also have four USB3 ports and an HD FaceTime camera.

New Apple iMac release date

The 21.5in iMac will be on sale from Friday the 30th of November, with prices starting at £1,099. The 27in model starts at £1,499 and will begin shipping in December. Both will be available from Apple retail stores and through Apple’s online store (
