Pros
  • Keeps hot sleepers cool
  • Lightweight, even at higher togs
  • Machine washable and hypoallergenic
Cons
  • Duvet design may not keep the filling in place over time

I’ll admit that I wasn’t expecting great things from the Dreams Dream Team Ultimate Washable duvet, as it seemed too reasonably priced to provide good quality. But I’m pleased to report that I was wrong: Both of the Dream Team Ultimate Washable duvets I tested perform well above their price range and I think they’re some of the best duvets I’ve slept on.

But, of course, there are a few small niggles, so I’ve slept on (or rather, under) the Dreams duvets to find out more and report back.

There are three versions of the Dreams duvet available, and I tested both the 10.5 tog and 4.5 tog. There is also a 13.5 tog but, as the weather was warming up during testing, I went for the two lighter togs.

The Dreams Dream Team Ultimate Washable duvets arrived in their own smart carrying bags, and I’m pleased to report that you can easily stuff the duvet back into the bag for storage if you wish. Upon opening the bags, the first thing I noticed was how soft and fluffy the duvets looked – this is down to the fact they contain a synthetic filling called Smartfil fibres. Smartfil fibres are made for recycled plastic bottles, so they’re incredibly environmentally friendly; they’re very fine, silky fibres that are designed to keep their shape. The duvet seams are also bonded together using ultrasonic technology, meaning high-frequency sound waves are used to produce heat to seal seams. This should provide a more durable and sleek-looking edge to the duvets, preventing loose threads or any loss of filling. The duvets are hypoallergenic and you’ll also get a one-year guarantee for faults.

Price wise, the Dreams duvets are hard to beat. They are only available in four sizes but are incredibly budget friendly. A single 4.5 tog duvet is £30, rising to £35 for a double, £40 for a king and £45 for a super king. The 10.5 tog duvet adds £10 onto each of these prices, while the 13.5 tog is £50 for a single, £55 for a double, £60 for a king and £65 for a super king.

If you purchase the 10.5 tog and 4.5 tog together, you’ll pay £80 for a double set, which is cheaper than the Soak & Sleep Soft As Down All Seasons 15 tog duvet at £119. It’s also considerably cheaper than some individual duvets, such as the Larke Nature’s Blend duvet 10.5 tog, which retails at £180.

I was really impressed with the look and feel of the Dreams duvets. Both togs felt light over the body, never leaving me feeling weighed down or smothered in bed. The duvets were also incredibly soft and airy, feeling puffy and fluffy and thicker than many other duvets I’ve slept under.

That puffy fluffyness (technical term) doesn’t mean that the Dreams duvets sleep hot, though. My hot-sleeping husband found them very comfortable: both togs kept him cool and comfortable throughout the night. As the resident reptile, they also did a great job of keeping me warm overnight, without leaving me feeling clammy at all.

There’s no noise from the Dreams duvets at all and they were completely silent to sleep under. Despite their slightly thicker presentation, they’re easy to fit into a standard duvet cover and they kept their shape well when being shaken out in the morning.

I really didn’t have many complaints about the Dreams duvets at all, but I did wonder if the way they were stitched might lead to the fillings clumping up over time. Although the Smartfil is specifically designed not to clump up that much, the wavy dividing lines on the Dreams duvets mean quite large sections of the filling are laid out together. Over time, I did feel that these might sink down to the bottom of the duvet or could clump together slightly. For the price of the duvets, I wouldn’t be put off over this but it’s just worth noting.

If you’ve got a smaller budget but don’t want to compromise on quality, the Dreams duvets are a fantastic buy. They’re comfortable to sleep under, regulate temperature well and feel soft to the touch. With the most expensive option being £65 for a super king size 13.5 tog duvet, there aren’t many other products on the market that will give you such a cosy night’s sleep.
