Samsung brings curved screen to its latest 27in monitor

The S27D590C will use a VA panel and have a Full HD resolution

There’s no denying that Samsung is the current king of curved TVs and home cinema equipment, but now its monitors will be getting the curve treatment as well. The company announced today that its first curved monitor will be the 27in S27D590C, which will use a VA panel and have a Full HD resolution of 1,920×1,080.

“Our new, 27-inch curved monitor takes movie watching and gaming to new heights, from the monitor’s unique curved screen and comprehensive entertainment features, to the incredible picture quality and the impressive sleek design,” said Phil Gaut, Director of Displays at Samsung UK & Ireland.

“The S27D590C further emphasises our focus to create a truly immersive and unforgettable entertainment experience.”

Samsung said that the screen’s curve will create a wider field of view and greater sense of depth, and will match the natural curve of the human eye. It will support 100mx100m VESA brackets for mounting on your wall, too.

The S27D590C will use Samsung’s Mega Dynamic Contrast Ratio technology to deliver a contrast ratio of 3,000:1 and a brightness of 350cd/m2, according to Samsung.

The monitor also has two built-in 5W speakers and a game mode function that can be activated at the touch of a button. “The game mode intelligently detects on-screen changes and corrects blurry images, enhances colours and alters contrast for improved visibility of in-game action,” said Samsung.

There’s currently no word on price or a release date for the S27D590C, but we’ll bring you our final verdict as soon as we get our hands on a review sample.
