Our Rating
Although it shares the same basic design and innards as its simpler sibling, the SPP-2020, the Samsung SPP-2040 is considerably more accomplished.
It boasts slots for a broad range of memory cards and a hinged screen that, while small, is of sufficiently high resolution to enable you to preview and select your photos with ease.
It's a commendably compact little device, although the snap-into-place paper feed does frustrate attempts at simple portability. The menu system is generally easy to use, but it must be said that the editing options are a little sparse.
The SPP-2040 does support printing from a mobile phone with an optional Samsung-only Bluetooth dongle.
We're concerned about the availability of consumables on the high street, but Samsung's website at least does list online retailers that stock the packs.
As it uses the same print engine as the SPP-2020, it came as no surprise that print times and print quality were identical. This can only be a good thing, however, as both rated very highly in our tests.
The Samsung SPP-2040 is a very competent printer, and one we're happy to recommend. It lacks the flexibility of the HP Photosmart 385 or the budget credentials of the Epson PictureMate 100, but it's fast and produces cracking photos.
