Everything that impressed us from the original release is there

Our Rating
Prosoft Engineering has updated its suite of disk tools to version 1.1.5, and the headline change is compatibility with Mac OS X 10.4 Tiger; indeed the CD on which the software is supplied will boot your computer into Tiger for testing.
Don't get excited - you can't use it to upgrade your installed system - but it's good to know that it's designed to work alongside the latest system.
Otherwise, everything that impressed us from the original release is there. The eight main modules cover repair, exact volume duplication, defragmentation, disk sector editing, data 'shredding', integrity checking, benchtesting and media scanning.
All work well, although, you should use the defragment option with care; defragging a Mac OS X volume can sometimes cause more problems than it solves.
There's also the ability to repartition volumes on the fly; in mission-critical work, we recommend proper partitioning, but this is a great option to have.
We were pleased to note that one of our gripes about the original release has been ironed out: provided that you have installed Drive Genius on any drive connected to a Mac you boot from the CD, you don't have to enter the serial number again.
