Verdict:
Logitech's Z523 speakers sound great but they're only worth the expense in certain situations.

Most speakers sound best when you're directly in front of them.
This is fine when you're gaming or listening to music, but less ideal when you have guests. Logitech's Z523 2.1 speakers have two speakers in each satellite - one facing forward and one back - to project sound round the room.
We were sceptical initially, but we were pleasantly surprised. Music sounded balanced and clear from almost any angle. The speakers are easily loud enough to fill a large room, so they're ideal for parties. The bass was a touch too booming for us, though.
We were quite taken with the Z523 speakers, but they're pricy. If you don't need omni-directional sound, Logitech's X230 speakers sound almost as good but cost almost half as much.
