The Amazon Kindle Scribe Colorsoft is a lovely thing. This large e-reader-type device has a stylus for writing and jotting notes on, it’s fantastically slim and light and incredibly responsive. I found it a joy to read with and take notes on, but when I reviewed it it had one fatal flaw: at £570, it was just a bit too expensive.

Well, not any more.

On Prime Day 2026, I’ve just seen Amazon hack the price by a healthy £115 off the list price, bringing the on-sale cost to £443. That’s more like the price I’d have liked the Kindle Scribe Colorsoft to have been when I first tested it. At this price I would have given it a Recommended award, although the rating would have stayed at 4/5 because the software isn’t quite polished enough.

That doesn’t prevent it getting the full thumbs up from us, though. If you’re looking to up your e-reader game before the summer holidays kick in, this is the device to buy.

  • Its large 11in colour e-ink screen is sharp and highly readable and comes with a built-in reading light
  • We loved how thin and light it was when we first tested it – it measures a mere 5.4mm from front to back and weighs a mere 400g
  • It supports all Kindle book formats natively, and just like other Kindle devices you can buy Kindle books directly on the device
  • The stylus is included in the price of the device. Many tablets and laptops that support styluses will charge extra
  • The feel and responsiveness of the pen is superb. It’s not exactly like a real pen and paper, but there’s more resistance and give to the nib than, for example, on an iPad, which makes it feel more natural to write with. Plus, with a writing latency of only 12ms there’s no lag to the writing experience whatsoever
  • You can also synchronise your notes to your desktop PC, search them by keyword, and add notes to books and PDFs easily

  • The Kindle Scribe Colorsoft might have been announced back in October 2025 but it took its precious time arriving in the UK so it really hasn’t been around that long, which means this is a rare early discount
  • Plus, the Scribe Kindles tend to be discounted on a less frequent basis than the regular Kindles, which means it may be a while before we see it at such a low price again
  • In our original review, one of the two main things we didn’t like was the price, which made it more expensive than most other digital notepads. This price drop means it’s far more competitive. Its main rival is the Boox Note Air 5c, also a colour note-taking e-reader, is £507 right now, which is more than £50 more expensive
  • The other main negative was the software, which we felt was a little clunky in places. We found it particularly annoying that you need an extra app to send files to the device, and the paper templates aren’t as wide-ranging as they are on a Remarkable tablet like the Paper Pro Move
  • Don’t expect the colours on the screen to pop like an LCD. The colours on an e-ink screeen like the Kindle Scribe’s are much more muted, with pastel-type colours instead of vibrant, saturated hues
  • Also worth pointing out is that the colour e-ink screen is a little darker and less clear for viewing monochrome material than a standard e-ink panel. There isn’t a huge amount in it, but it is noticeable

If you’re in the market for a digital note-taking device, then absolutely. This discount means the Scribe Colorsoft is now one of the best bargains you get in the digital note-taking world, and with writing responsiveness that’s right at the top of the tree, it can hold its own against any of the established names such as Remarkable or Boox.

Even if you don’t see yourself using the note-taking much, it makes a fantastic large-format e-reader. In fact, it’s the best e-reader bar noned that Amazon makes, in our opinion. In short, we love it, and this new lower price means we can wholeheartedly recommend you buy one.
