- Amazon’s original digital note-taking device is on sale for £230 in the company’s Spring Deal Days sale
- It’s the same device, essentially, as the 2024 ‘update’, so there’s no need to worry about paying more
At its usual price of £360, the Kindle Scribe feels a little on the pricey side, but fortunately the regularity of Amazon’s sales events means you never need to pay full price for any of the company’s products. As long as you’re patient you can save big, and in the case of this digital note-taking device that means a chunky £130 saving in Amazon’s Spring Sale.
That brings the price down to £230, which is pretty good when you consider what you’re getting for the money: a 10.2in e-Ink display, 16GB of storage for your notes, PDFs and ebooks, and the premium stylus, which costs £70 on its own. At this price, it’s comfortably the cheapest large-format note-taking device around.
What makes the Kindle Scribe so good?
It all comes down to that stylus. Unlike a regular Kindle, this allows you to use the Scribe to take notes, to scribble in the margins of books and to highlight sections of PDF documents.
You can use it to jot down to-do lists that you can then sync back to your laptop or your phone, to doodle, or to manage reams of handwritten notes. You can organise your notes into folders and there’s a choice of paper types to choose from as well, from simple lined notepaper to graph paper to help you sketch out ideas and charts.
Importantly, unlike a tablet such as the iPad Pro or the Samsung Galaxy Tab S11 Ultra, the Kindle Scribe mimics the feel of pen on paper much more successfully. There’s a softness to the nib and a texture to the display that makes it more satisfying to write on than a regular tablet.
Of course, you can also use the Kindle Scribe just like a giant Kindle reader if you really want to, and while it feels a bit much for novels it is an excellent tool for reading comic books.
Is it worth paying more for the 2024 model?
You will have noticed that this deal is on the 2022 model, which is four years old now, so why not buy the 2024 model instead, which comes with “redesigned display with uniform borders”? After all, that’s also on offer at £255 – a reduction of £125.
The reason is that there’s no practical difference between the two. That “redesigned display” is merely a change to the colour of the border surrounding the screen.
The only other differentiating factor is that the 2024 model, at launch, came with the premium stylus as standard, complete with a rubber “eraser” on the top and a button for highlighting on the barrel.
Even that advantage has now been eroded, though, as the 2022 model also now comes with the premium stylus.
The long and short of it is that the 2022 Kindle Scribe is identical to its forebear, which makes this the Kindle Scribe deal the only one you should consider this week.
