Mesh Computers enters administration – what to do

UK system builder ceases trading due to "financial difficulties"

PC builder Mesh went into administration and ceased trading on May 31st. The appointed administrator, MacIntyre Hudson, sold the name and some assets on the same day to components distributor PC Peripherals.

Formed in 1987, Mesh was the largest independent UK PC manufacturer, managing to outlive its big rival Evesham Technology, which closed its doors in 2008.

While Mesh the company might have ceased trading, the brand will still live on, as PC Peripherals intends to continue selling computers under this brand name. Reza Jafari, owner and director of PC Peripherals commented, “We are pleased to have completed this acquisition and see it as an excellent platform from which to develop our business. Mesh Computers’ 25 year history of manufacturing in the UK is a solid foundation to build from and we are looking forward to investing and moving into our next phase of growth.”

The big question, is what does this mean for new or existing customers of Mesh? We spoke with Jafari to get an overview of exactly what would happen now and how customers waiting for PCs should progress. He told us that existing customers that have a PC within the warranty period will have their warranties honoured by PC Peripherals.

“We will honour all warranties,” said Jafari. “We will also keep the same website and telephone numbers for users to call.” We’ve been told that most outstanding orders have been dispatched, but anyone that hasn¹t received their PC will need to get their money back either through their credit card company or by talking to the administrator.

GET A REFUND

People that paid by credit card can claim a full refund from their credit card company. Under Section 75 of the Consumer Credit Act 1974 customers may be entitled to claim a refund for purchases between £100 and £30,000.

For people that paid by cheque or debit card, or that are unable to claim a credit card refund, they should contact MacIntyre Hudson (020 7248 8939, Ref CR100626) for a Proof of Debt form. This should be completed and sent with any additional evidence to the administrators, which will acknowledge your claim within seven days.

Unfortunately, there¹s no guarantee of these people getting their money back.

FUTURE SALES

For the future, PC Peripherals intends to continue shipping PCs under the Mesh brand. The website and telephone lines will continue to work. One of the concerns we’ve had from readers in the last few months is that Mesh took payment for PCs that were either delivered very late or not at all. PC Peripherals was keen to point out that it will not operate in this way.

“We are currently taking orders, but we will charge only when we start delivering” said Jafari. “We should start shipping PCs again within 10 days [from 1st June 2011].”

Needless to say, Expert Reviews takes this situation very seriously. Our advice is to check the site for the latest news and advice regarding Mesh PCs before placing any orders. It’s our aim to meet with PC Peripherals soon and find out its intentions for the company going forwards.

As soon as we have new information we’ll update the site. Any readers with any concerns or problems getting information should get in touch with us using the contact page and we’ll do our best to help.
