LG demos 6.9mm local dimming LED-backlit LCD TV
Posted on 6 Jan 2010 at 19:43
CES 2010: LG this morning demonstrated what's easily one of the world's thinnest LCD TVs, measuring just 6.9mm thick.
The firm stopped short of revealing much about the TV though - even the model name is a mystery - and said that it would talk in more detail later this year.
In addition to its svelte 6.9mm figure, the mystery TV also boasts a thin 10mm bezel and a 240-block local dimming LED backlight with pixel compensation.
Local dimming enables much higher contrasts, as the backlight can be controlled in smaller areas of the screen, while pixel compensation prevents banding in areas of extreme contrast.
When asked about pricing and availability, LG's executives remained mum on how much the TV will cost when it's eventually launched, but said that we may it on store shelves before the end of 2010. The executives couldn't say whether it'd make it to Europe at the same time as Japan and the US, though.
