LG Music Flow expands with P7 portable and LAS750M sound bar
More speakers for LG's Sonos-rivalling multi room system arrive with Google Cast support
Announced last year, Music Flow is LG’s effort in the multi-room speaker market, to take on the likes of Sonos. Today we saw more devices in LG’s Music Flow range of devices at its Innotech event in Lisbon. The Music Flow P7 is the first portable Bluetooth Speaker in the range, while we also got to listen to the LAS750M, a very stylish sound bar.
The Music Flow P7 is a compact, portable device. It comes with a stylish silver finish with speaker grilles to the front and rear, with drivers firing from both sides. It puts out a total of 20W RMs, so is suited for small rooms. It can also be tied into other Music Flow devices to act as a second speaker in a stereo setup or to provide surround effects with a sound bar.
The device feels very well made and audio sounded of a high-quality too, though it’s hard to make any final judgements at a loud event such as this. There’s the option of various coloured clip-on covers if you want to liven up its looks somewhat, and protect it from the odd knock or scratch. It should retail at around EUR149, so around £120 in the UK.
The LAS750M sound bar also impressed us, shown here for the first time in silver, the all-grille design looks great, with an LCD display that shines through to let you know what source you’ve selected. The 4.1 channels sounded good on the show floor. It ties in with other LG devices of course, for surround sound (as mentioned above) or simly because you can pause music streamed to it using your TV remote.
The internet-connected speaker system also comes in a variety of other shapes and sizes suited for different uses around the home – see LG Music Flow Smart Hi-Fi review – hands on . All the units support the same streaming standards though, including Spotify, Napster, Deezer and others.
Most interesting though is support for the newly announced Google Cast standard, which will let you cast music from numerous sources, such as an Android phone, or even simply a Chrome browser. You can read more about the technology in our Google Cast coverage.
As with other multi-room systems there are numerous listening modes on offer. You can listen to different music in different rooms; use two speakers in tandem in a left-right stereo setup; group all your speakers together so you get audio throughout the home – for a party possibly or just because you want to listen to the radio as you move around your home; finally there’s a home cinema option, as we’ve mentioned.
