We’d never heard of Cresyn before, but its odd looking headphones produce some of the best audio we’ve heard at this price

Cresyn isn’t a particularly well-known name in the UK, but the Korean company has been making audio products since 1959. The CS-HP600 is an odd-looking pair of headphones which folds away to a particularly compact size.

They take a bit of adjusting, but once correctly sized for our head we found them incredibly comfortable, cool to wear and secure without being too tight. The earpieces’ padded cups fit around the ear, resting firmly but comfortably on the side of the head. They look and feel a bit cheap – we’re not fans of silver plastic in general – but they feel reasonably solid.

The headphones kicked out plenty of volume and produced a big, powerful sound with a great sense of space – something we don’t normally expect from closed drivers. We also don’t expect much sound to leak from closed backs, but a fair bit made its way out of the earpieces.

Our initial impression of the headphones was that they were somewhat bass-heavy, but while they do indeed chuck out plenty of bass, they’re also well balanced and really fun to listen to. High notes were detailed without being harsh, and mid-range vocals and guitars were clear and powerful. They don’t have the level of detail you’d get from a really expensive set, but they make for a genuinely enjoyable listening experience.

The headphones come with a soft pouch and a 3.5mm to 1/4in adaptor, while their cable measures 1.5m. The manufacturer makes much of the use of titanium in the drivers, but we’ve experienced both good and bad headphones built using the same material. While their 100dB sensitivity rating and 35ohm impedance don’t set the CS-HP600 apart from other low-price headphones, the quality of their sound does. They wouldn’t be our first choice for a quiet commute, but they’re superb value, and win our Budget Buy award.
