Harman Kardon has announced the launch of two new AV receivers, the AVR 700 and the AVR 1700, each offering multiple HDMI inputs.
The two devices, aimed at budget-conscious and mid-range buyers respectively, share several features including 5.1 channel surround support, Dolby and DTS audio decoding, and 3D content compatibility including 3D Blu-ray players.
The cheaper AVR 700 provides 75W of amplification per channel, features three HDMI inputs with 3D, Deep Colour, Consumer Electronics Control (CEC) and Audio Return Channel (ARC) support, and several legacy-format AV inputs. A front-panel USB input is also included for direct playback of music files from a mobile or storage device, along with a pair of analogue RCA connectors and a headphone jack.
The higher-end AVR 1700, meanwhile, upgrades the output power to 100W per channel and adds network capabilities, giving the device the ability to stream audio from Digital Living Network Alliance (DLNA) compatible devices or Apple AirPlay devices. The AVR 1700 can also be controlled through a free Android or iOS app, and includes six HDMI inputs along with support for vTuner internet radio stations.
Both models are expected to launch in the UK before the end of the year, but Harmon Kardon has yet to confirm pricing. In the US, the AVR 700 has launched at $299 while the AVR 1700 costs $499 (around £187 and £312 respectively, excluding taxes.)
