Our Rating
D-Link's DCS-2120 gained four stars in Labs, Shopper 233, however, the market's moved on, and not much sets this 640x480 camera with audio and RTSP apart from the crowd.
It's easy to set up, although you'll need an Ethernet cable to configure the wireless network. Once it's up and running, you have to use Internet Explorer to view it over the web, as it's not compatible with other browsers. On the plus side, the web interface is clean and very usable, with support for the free DynDNS service and an access control list that lets you restrict viewing to a named IP address or range.
In good light, the DCS-2120 produces clear pictures and the slight fish-eye distortion gives a wide field of vision. There's no night vision, but the camera transmits a clear video stream of a dim room. Unfortunately, snapshots of people moving about in such conditions appear blurry, which could hamper the camera's usefulness in identifying intruders.
D-Link's DCS-2120 is a serviceable camera, but it lacks a distinctive strength, making it hard to recommend over the cheaper alternatives here.
