There are cheaper 24in monitors than Iiyama's B2409HDS, but none we've seen that match it for value.

The B in the name stands for business, but don't discount it for home use. The 1,920x1,080 resolution means it has a 16:9 aspect ratio and, along with the HDMI input, it's well equipped for HD video display.

The differences between this model and the E2407HDS are fairly minimal. The B2409HDS has a more versatile stand that tilts, swivels and can be raised by 110mm. It also pivots to portrait mode, which can be useful for working on long documents. The design is slightly curvier, too, although the exclusive use of matt black plastic means it's not as stylish as it could be. Finally, the dynamic contrast ratio has been increased from 10,000:1 to 20,000:1.

The actual contrast ratio is a far lower 1,000:1, and in our tests the B2409HDS looked virtually identical to its cheaper brother. The backlighting is even, though, and there was no blue tint to mono images as with the E2407HDS. Colours were accurate, with no ghosting or juddering. Viewing angles aren't great, with whites turning yellow when you're more than 30? off-centre.

Power consumption is low at just 40W, but the three Eco modes can reduce this to just 19W. We found the -10W setting was the best compromise, with good brightness, but a power draw of just 31W. There are also standard, text, game, internet, movie and sports mode presets.

The B2409HDS is backed by Iiyama's three-year onsite warranty. Combine this with the stand's adjustability and good image quality, and this is a great-value monitor. If you can live with its looks, it's a great buy.
