Get the incredible Oculus Quest 2 VR headset for £294

Not a huge discount, but the Oculus Quest 2 has, until recently, been impossible to find.

With people stuck indoors for the third time in a year, it’s once again a brilliant time to escape to a world of virtual reality make believe. And now the Oculus Quest 2 – the most versatile VR headset around – is the lowest price it’s ever been.

Granted, it’s not the lowest by much, but considering that finding an Oculus Quest 2 in stock has been pretty challenging over the last few months, any kind of discount is worth celebrating. Anyway, at Currys PC World you can get the 64GB unit for £294 when you apply the code “FNDDGAMING” at checkout.

So what makes the Oculus Quest 2 better than its rivals? In short, its flexibility – you don’t need to set up tracking cameras around the room like the first generation of VR headsets, and it can work in two ways.

Firstly, you can use it as it comes straight out the box – boot it up, strap it on and play some of the best VR experiences around natively with no extra hardware. Beat Saber, Super Hot and The Walking Dead: Saints & Sinners all have versions built for the hardware as it comes and they represent a great taster of what makes VR so special.

But if you happen to have a computer with enough grunt to run VR games, then you can connect it to your PC and let your GPU take the graphics to the next level with exclusive experiences like Half Life: Alyx and Microsoft Flight Simulator. This does need a special cable, mind, and while you can spend £89 on the official Oculus branded one, a £30 third-party lead will do the job too

It’s excellent with or without the PC connection, frankly. As our reviewer Will Georgiadis wrote when putting it through its paces: “There is no simpler way to put this: if you want a VR headset, buy the Oculus Quest 2. It doesn’t matter if you’re an experienced PC VR gamer or a virtual newcomer; the Quest 2 is undeniably the only headset worth your money.”

A £5 saving is clearly not the be all and end all on a £300 product, but it doesn’t hurt – and if you’re looking to beat the lockdown blues, this is a great way to do it.
