Is the Huawei MateBook 14 the best laptop deal this Black Friday?
Good value just became amazing value, with Amazon slashing HUNDREDS off the Huawei MateBook 14 for Black Friday
The Huawei MateBook 14 was already an exceptionally good value piece of kit. The 2021 model packs an Intel Core i5-1135G7 CPU, 8GB of RAM and a big 512GB SSD into a slimline 1.49kg design for less than £1,000. And now Amazon has wiped more than a quarter off its price tag.
Originally £950, the MateBook 14 now drops to a mere £699.99. Less than 700 quid for an ultraportable laptop of this spec, plus high-precision touchscreen, fantastic battery life, 14 inches 2K FullView display and free upgrade to Windows 11? That’s one hell of a deal.
Our five-star review of the Huawei MateBook 14 (specifically the 2020 model, which is hard to get hold of these days), we called this laptop “remarkable”, “astonishingly – and I mean astonishingly – powerful”, and said it “has enough power to last many years.” We concluded: “That Huawei can produce a laptop costing less than £1,000 to rival hulking beasts for raw speed is hard to believe.” Well, make that less than £700.
It’s not perfect. Huawei embeds its webcam into a physical key, giving onlookers a less than flattering angle of even the most shapely of chins. Shame, because the quality of the camera itself is excellent. We also quibbled over “mediocre battery life” of 7hrs 6mins in our video-rundown test, although we did very much like Huawei’s phone-style charger, with its folding plug prong.
Those minor drawbacks aside, we raved about this laptop. We wrote: “The MateBook 14 cements itself as a magnificent value ultraportable capable of outshining many more established Windows-dependent brands. If you can look past the battery life, you’ll have bought yourself a fantastic laptop for a very competitive sum.”
We’re definitely not recommending the Huawei MateBook 14 just because it’s such a good price. We’re recommending it, full stop – and it just happens to be a good price, now an extraordinarily great price, but not for long. The best Black Friday laptop deal we’ve seen.
