The Google Nest Hub Max has had its price slashed for Black Friday.
Google’s superb smart screen is currently available for £159 in both the charcoal and chalk colourways, which is £60 cheaper than usual.
Despite the arrival of the second-generation Google Nest Hub, the Nest Hub Max remains Google’s most complete smart screen.
It’s a one-stop-shop for all your Google Assistant needs, is both smart and responsive and picked up our Best Buy award when we reviewed it.
The in-built microphones do a great job at picking up your voice and the assistant does the rest, consistently understanding what’s being asked of it and providing an appropriate response.
Its big advantages over the original and second-gen Nest Hubs are the size of its screen and the inclusion of a camera.
At 10in, it’s three inches larger than those options and the camera built into the top bezel provides useful functionality, including facial recognition, quick gesture control and video calls.
It can also double up as a security cam if you link your Google and Nest accounts, though you will have to pay an additional fee for a Nest Aware subscription if you want continuous video recording and various other security features.
In terms of audio quality, the Nest Hub Max doesn’t sound as refined as the Google Nest Audio, but the overall sonic experience is decent, with the 30W woofer and two 10W mid-high drivers delivering sound belying the smart screen’s size.
But it’s the Nest Hub Max’s versatility and intelligence as a smart device that truly set it apart. It’s compatible with Nest Hello doorbells, can be used to watch videos on YouTube without having to raise a finger and even has Chromecast support built-in.
If Google Assistant is your smart assistant of choice and you want a video-enabled hub to control your home ecosystem, the Nest Hub Max is the smart screen to buy. At this discounted Black Friday price, you simply won’t find a more comprehensive option or better value for money.
