I recently recommended a projector to a friend – I wish I’d known about this Prime Day deal on the XGIMI MoGo 4 Laser

The award-winning XGIMI MoGo 4 Laser has had its price slashed to an all-time low of £439 for Prime Day

Making recommendations to those close to you is part and parcel of life as a tech reviewer. Fortunately, most of the options I’ve put forward have served their purpose effectively and been well-received. But when I saw this Prime Day projector deal on the XGIMI MoGo 4 Laser, I felt a slight sense of remorse.

You see, I recently pointed a close friend towards the Anker Nebula Mars 3 Air. He was looking for a projector ahead of the World Cup that was portable, affordable and bright enough to use outside after dark.

He grabbed it for £420 – a reasonable price – and has been thoroughly enjoying using it with his family. However, if I’d remembered about Prime Day (the fact I didn’t says a lot about my feelings towards the event), I would have told him to hold fire. Not because the Nebula Mars 3 Air can now be picked up for £339, though that would have been a great reason, but because I’d have told him to buy the XGIMI MoGo 4 Laser instead.

XGIMI MoGo 4 Prime Day projector deal: A new best price on a best-in-class beamer

The MoGo 4 Laser, which won Projector of the Year at our Product of the Year Awards in January, has had its price slashed to £439, £240 less than it cost when our projector expert, Stuart Andrews, awarded it five stars and a Best Buy. It’s the cheapest the MoGo 4 Laser has been by a full £50, and almost £200 less than its average price over the last 180 days on Amazon.

You will need to be an Amazon Prime member to take advantage of this deal, though, and the event ends at midnight on Friday, 26 June, so you’d better get a move on. If you’re not already a member, it’s worth signing up for a 30-day free trial.

Whichever way you look at it, £439 is a sensational price on a portable projector that blew us away in testing. Its triple-laser system is capable of outputting 550 ISO Lumens, but Stuart said its 1080p images were “so clearly and visibly brighter than the competition” that he would have believed a higher figure. The additional brightness delivers rich colours and impressive contrast, with blacks looking black rather than a faded grey.

He also praised the Intelligent Screen Adaptation (ISA) system, labelling it one of the best for auto-focus and picture alignment. Stuart has tested over 20 projectors for us in the last few years, so that says a lot.

XGIMI MoGo 4 Laser Prime Day projector deal: Bright, flexible and easy to use

The other great strength of the MoGo 4 Laser is its flexible design. It’s supremely portable, and its lift and pivot system allows you to rotate the beamer through a full 360 degrees, allowing you to point it at the ceiling if you’re flat on your back enjoying some Netflix. It can also transform into a Bluetooth speaker with a pulsating light, and XGIMI includes four “creative” filters that enable you to project ambient visuals onto your wall. That sounds like the perfect backdrop for some mindful reflection or meditation, if you ask me.

Battery life of two and a half hours will just about get you through extra time and penalties when England labour to a draw with a team they should beat handily in the knockout stages, and the use of Google TV ensures the MoGo 4 Laser is both easy to set up and reasonably well furnished with content.

It’s worth noting that BBC iPlayer and the Channel 4 app are AWOL, but getting around this is easy enough if you have an Amazon Fire TV Stick, all of which are also on offer for Prime Day.

All in all, this Prime Day projector deal is not to be missed. A best-in-class product at a best-ever price is what Prime Day is all about. Sorry, Mr Skaife; if I’d known what Amazon had up its sleeve, I’d have advised you differently.
