One of the best home speakers I’ve tested in ages is heavily discounted for Prime Day

Save a whopping £60 on the WiiM Sound, a wireless home speaker that looks and sounds the part

It’s day three of Amazon’s exclusive sale for Prime subscribers, and I’ve not yet brought you a Prime Day speaker deal. The shame! There’s a good chance that when the heat dies down, I’ll be led barefoot through the streets of London and pelted with who knows what to atone for my miscreancy.

But there may be a way to avoid that public admonishment: by bringing you a certified bargain on one of the best wireless speakers I’ve tested. The WiiM Sound arrived on my desk a couple of months back, and immediately impressed me with the breadth and power of its presentation. This is a speaker that goes loud and does so without straining or struggling.

WiiM Sound Prime Day speaker deal: Value and then some

And it’s a speaker that’s exceptional value thanks to this Prime Day deal. Amazon has the WiiM Sound listed for £239, which is £60 less than it cost when I gave it five stars and our Recommended award. It’s also the first time the speaker has been discounted since launch.

While this discount can’t magic away the niggles I had with the WiiM Sound, namely the absence of Apple AirPlay 2 support and in-built microphones, it makes them easier to overlook than before.

Not that I found it too hard to focus on all the things the speaker gets right when I reviewed it. I’ve already hinted at how capably it fills a room at higher volumes, but not mentioned just how well it handles low frequencies. Bass reproduction is deep and rich, and the WiiM Sound articulates mids and trebles with precision. Audio tweakers will go nuts for the EQ options on offer – there are no fewer than 19 presets, and the level of detail given to the custom EQ option is better here than on any other speaker I’ve tested.

Those options are representative of an intuitive and all-encompassing in-app experience that knocks the socks off most of the competition. Integrated streaming platforms for a range of popular services is easy, there’s an in-built music library that grows over time, and the layout is very sensible.

Standout functionality at a best-ever price

But my favourite thing about the WiiM Sound is the digital colour display on the front of the speaker. It’s a touchscreen, meaning you can use swipes and taps to access recently played content, screen adjustment options, radio stations and more. The functionality is very welcome, but I really love the fact that the screen can double as a clock and display wallpapers of your choosing. This gives the WiiM Sound some added personality, which is pretty rare in the world of home wireless speakers.

It’s hard to say when the WiiM Sound will next get a big discount like this: Amazon’s Big Deal Days event is rumoured for October, and then we have Black Friday the following month. Both are quite a way off, so my recommendation is to snap up the WiiM Sound before the curtain falls on Prime Day at 11.59pm on Friday, 26 June

Doing so requires an Amazon Prime membership, which typically costs £8.99/mth or £95/yr. I think that’s well worth it for free deliveries, Prime Video, etc, but if you don’t want to commit to it, you can always sign up for a 30-day free trial, go wild during Prime Day and not renew when the trial period is up.

If you’ve got deal fever and want to know what we consider the very best deals this Prime Day, head on over to our Prime Day deals hub. We’ve also put together roundups of the biggest discounts and bargains across the key product categories of TVs, smartphones, laptops and coffee machines.
