Huawei’s latest high-end ultraportable laptop is the best-value laptop deal we've seen - but it's going soon
This Black Friday laptop deal is particularly special: the brand-new Huawei MateBook 14s is currently enjoying its first-ever price reduction in the form of a very nice 21% discount. You have until the end of Cyber Monday to grab it, though, so don’t delay.
Originally retailing at £1,200, the MateView 14s (11th-gen Intel i7, 16GB RAM, 512GB SSD) has almost immediately dropped an impressive £250 to £950. Sure, it isn’t the cheapest laptop worth your money (the MateBook D15 2020 takes that award this Black Friday) but between the impressive spec and the extraordinary discount, we’re convinced this is a seriously good Black Friday laptop deal.
Let’s dwell on that impressive spec for a moment. The MateView 14s we’re raving about here is hiding an 11th-gen Intel i7-11370H processor under the hood, backed by 16GB of RAM and a 512GB SSD. The touch-enabled display is an LCD jobbie with a resolution of 2,520 x 1,680 (that’s a 3:2 aspect ratio) and a maximum refresh rate of 90Hz. Or, in short: the MateBook 14s is a powerful ultraportable laptop that differs from its budget D15 siblings in almost every way… including the price tag.
We reviewed the MateBook 14s very recently, as it happens. It earned five stars and a Recommended award, garnering praise for its gorgeous display, surprisingly good speaker arrangement and – believe it or not – the excellent value for money that it represents at launch. Both the CPU and the SSD blitzed our in-house tests, while the battery managed to keep the lights on for around 11 hours, which is relatively good for a laptop that weighs 1.43kg (less than a MacBook Pro).
If you need even more from your high-end laptop, there is a beefier version of the MateBook 14s that comes with a 1TB NVMe SSD and a Thunderbolt USB-C port. Although it isn’t enjoying the same hefty discount the cheaper model is, you can get a free 24in monitor and gaming mouse plus a choice of either a pair of Huawei Freebuds, a Huawei Watch GT2 or Gentle Monster smart glasses with your purchase. This applies to the cheaper MateBook 14s, too, so you’re spoilt for choice.
