The Sage Barista Express is an excellent all-in-one espresso machine that brings class to your kitchen and seriously good coffee to your day. Sage has now slashed £150 off its price for Black Friday, bringing it down from slightly pricey to brilliant bargain.
Normally £630, the Black Sesame edition of the Barista Express is now £480 from Sage, undercutting both Amazon and John Lewis’s Black Friday deals.
The Barista Express offers the fexibility of a manual coffee machine, coupled with the sleek neatness of a bean-to-cup machine. It has the same high build quality and fantastic looks as Sage’s commercial-level the Dual Boiler, but at less than half the price.
Ready-ground coffee has a pretty short shelf life, so grinding your own beans gives you the best possible results. The Barista Express has a built-in burr grinder that gives you a lot more control than cheaper manual machines. It delivers your ground beans straight into your chosen filter, then uses low-pressure pre-infusion to draw out flavours evenly and deliver what our four-star review called “excellent espresso”.
Among the many things we like about the Sage Barista Express is its really easy setup. You fit the water filter into the large 2L reservoir, fill it with water and stick it in the back of the machine. Next, you fit the coffee grinder’s hopper and choose your filter. There are single- and two-cup filters, designed for coffee that you grind yourself.
The machine also lets you make milk drinks, using the included milk jug and steamer. Just insert the steamer wand into the milk, then turn the dial to steam setting. Our tester managed to get soft, textured milk ready for a latte, which looked and tasted great.
