Google Pixelbook Go: Full details leaked

The Google Pixelbook Go has been unearthed, mere days before the official Made by Google event in New York. Thanks to the efforts of an anonymous leaker, we now know exactly what the new Chromebook will look like, as well as what’s inside and how it shapes up in comparison to its predecessors.

The leak takes the form of a prototype model, delivered anonymously to the folks at 9to5Google. This means that we’ve been blessed with an unprecedented level of access to the product; 9to5Google received a low-spec machine in a dashing shade of “Not Pink”, although obviously other options – in terms of both specs and colour – are also available.

Google’s new Pixelbook is unusual in that it sports a textured bottom panel, which has thus far been described as feeling like a “washboard” or “the roof of a dog’s mouth” (take that as you will). The top panel has a matte finish of some variety, and a placeholder logo where the Google “G” should be.

Now for the juicy stuff. The Pixelbook Go has two USB Type-C ports and a 3.5mm headphone jack, exactly like the original Pixelbook. Flanking the 13.3in display are two far-field microphones and a 2-megapixel camera; below, two front-facing speakers sit either side of a Pixelbook keyboard and trackpad (Which according to 9to5Google, uses a diving board mechanism).

Inside, you’ll find an Intel processor, an NVMe SSD and varying amounts of RAM – in other words, nothing out of the ordinary. There are several spec configurations to choose from, so we’ll go ahead and list them:

• Intel m3, i5 or i7 processor
• 8GB/16GB RAM
• 64GB/128GB/256GB NVMe SSD
• 2-megapixel front-facing camera (1080p at 60fps)
• Titan C security chip
• 13.3in 16:9 1080p Full HD display or 4K “molecular display”

9to5Google points out the absence of a fingerprint sensor and seeming lack of Pixelbook Pen support, although both features were little more than rumours.

The Pixelbook Go is likely to launch on 15 October at the Made by Google event in New York City. It will almost certainly launch alongside the Google Pixel 4/4 XL; also rumoured to be in attendance is a 5G Pixel 4, as well as a variety of new Nest products.
