Kindle Paperwhite at lowest ever price

Amazon slashes prices of entire Kindle range in Black Friday sale

Every Amazon Kindle has just had its price reduced for Black Friday, so if your ebook reader has seen better days or you’re thinking of treating someone to a Kindle this Christmas, you should definitely turn your attention to Amazon.

Here’s every Amazon Kindle deal, from the cheapest to most expensive.

First up is the basic Kindle, refreshed just this year and now available for £55 – a £15 discount on its normal £70. Frankly, you may not need more than this, as it’s a great basic model that has gradually inherited features that used to belong to its more expensive siblings, such as a backlight, Bluetooth and support for Audible audiobook downloads.

Next up is the Kindle Kids Edition, which is selling for £70, rather than its usual £100. A saving of 30% on a product we literally only reviewed on Tuesday is pretty good going. It’s the same hardware as the basic Kindle above, except it comes with a chunky case to avoid dropping damage and a two-year quibble-free warranty in case your kids do somehow manage to break it. It also comes with a year’s subscription to the Fire for Kids book library, which has thousands of child-friendly titles to choose from – including all the Harry Potter stories.

Then there’s the Kindle Paperwhite, which is £85, down from £120. It’s the oldest of the products on offer here, but still a fine ebook reader. I reviewed it last year and, for my money, it’s still the best-value option available – especially at this price. With 8GB of storage, there’s enough space for between 2,000 and 8,000 books, it has a sharper 300ppi display, and it’s waterproofed to IPX8 standards for bathtime/poolside reading.

Finally, there’s the King of Kindles, the Kindle Oasis. It’s the 2019 model, which is now £180 down from £230. There’s not much new in the 2019 version, other than adding a warmer light that won’t hit your ability to drift off at night. It’s a luxurious product, though, with an all-metal body, a large 7in screen and buttons to turn the pages, rather than just the touchscreen.

Whichever you buy, you’re getting a quality product. It’s just a question of how much you want to spend.
