A fun ten minutes' gaming in multiplayer mode, but a lack of variety and dull single-player game means it's not particularly engrossing

[/vc_column_text]

While most games work best without the distraction of constant chatter from your fellow players, we had the most fun in Hoard when all our mics were permanently on. In co-op games, it’s essential if you want to coordinate your hoard defence and attacks on towns successfully. In competitive play, we just enjoyed hearing our opponents swear as we stole their hard-earned gold from under their noses.

Hoard is an amusing distraction, but the limited number of play modes, maps and power-ups means that it won’t keep you entertained for very long. Solo games seem dull almost as soon as you’ve learned to play. The game’s at its best with a group a friends, but it’s hard to imagine gamers getting together just for a few ten-minute rounds of Hoard. If you see it on a Steam offer for £5 or less, buy it – you won’t regret it. It’s only worth paying the extra couple of quid at full price if a lot of your friends have both this game and a regular ten minutes to spare.
