Deal alert: The Bose-rivalling Sony WH-1000XM3 headphones are £80 off at Amazon

Sony's excellent noise-cancelling headphones can be yours for just £250

When you think noise-cancelling headphones, you might immediately zone in on Bose’s QuietComfort range. But Bose isn’t the last word, and in fact, we’re rather fond of Sony’s super WH-1000XM3 headphones, no matter how much of a pain it is to write out that serial unwieldy model number over and over again.

In fact, if you visit our review right now, you’ll see quite a telling headline: “Bose deposed.” You’ll also see the phrase “none to speak of” in the “cons” column.

Normally, these wonderful cans go for £330 – or exactly the same price as the Bose QC25s – but right now on Amazon, you can buy a set for £250, a saving of £80. That’ll get you a pair in silver. If you absolutely must have black, you’ll get less of a saving, with a pair coming in at £276.92.

(If you really want to go cheap, it’s worth looking in the Amazon warehouse where, at the time of writing, you can get a pair of used headphones in “good” condition for £220. You’re welcome.)

So what makes the WH-1000XM3 so good? Well, there’s the sound quality, obviously, but the noise cancellation – so often a letdown in ANC headphones – is excellent too. The battery will run for 30 hours, and a ten-minute charge will give you around five hours if you somehow let them go flat. Oh, and they play nicely with Google Assistant, Siri and Alexa too.

“With the WH-1000XM3, Sony has gone straight to the top of the pile with a pair of premium wireless headphones that deliver excellent sound quality, leading noise cancelling and a solid feature set, all housed in a cleverly designed package,” Roland wrote in our review.

“If you have £330 to spend and you want the best wireless noise-cancelling headphones money can buy, I’d recommend Sony’s WH-1000XM3 in a heartbeat; they’re simply brilliant headphones,” he concluded.

Suffice to say that at £250 they’re an even easier recommendation.
