Philips Hue deals haven’t been in huge supply this Black Friday, but we’ve finally spotted a good one on Amazon.
For £99, you can get the Philips Hue Colour Starter Kit and the all-new Echo Dot. That’s a saving of £101 on what it would cost if you bought the two separately. The bundle has sold fast, but you can still order one for delivery in a couple of weeks – patience is a virtue, don’t forget.
Philips Hue lights are the most popular smart bulbs on the planet. Pop them in your regular light fittings – E27 in this case – and you’ll be able to control the lighting from your phone app. That’s not just a case of turning them on or off: set the brightness to your liking, and change the colour to one of 16 million shades, all from your smartphone.
But the really cool stuff happens when combined with a smart assistant, like the one in the bundled Echo Dot here. Once set up, simply say “Alexa, turn my kitchen lights green” and you’ll suddenly be basked in a festive glow.
It really does feel like the future, but it’s not just for show. Case in point: the light switch in my bedroom is nowhere near the bed. Being able to switch things off without risking banging my leg against things is a huge improvement, both for me and my physio.
The Echo Dot is good for more than just that, of course, letting you ask questions, hear about your day and listen to music. And the latest version included here is the best yet. As I said in my review, the new baseball-size Echo Dot is another step forward for the company.
