Honor's MagicBook Pro is a cracking laptop at an amazing price
Honor’s laptops usually offer pretty good value at regular prices, but this Black Friday deal is something else. The Honor MagicBook Pro, to which we awarded five stars and a Best Buy award when we reviewed it back in 2020, has been reduced from its already very reasonable price of £850 to a price you’d be mad to pass up, saving you a massive £250.
This is the AMD version of Honor’s MagicBook Pro – the AMD Ryzen 5 4600H, no less – and it delivers serious amounts of power for the money. It’s backed up in this model by 8GB of RAM and a sizeable 512GB SSD.
At the time of our original review, we called it “bonkers good” and said that “it embarrasses laptops costing hundreds of pounds more”. Although things have moved on in performance terms since then, it still holds up well, especially given the healthy price reduction.
It isn’t only the raw specifications you should be interested in, however. The Honor MagicBook Pro also has a fabulous display. It isn’t a touchscreen but it’s large at 16in across the diagonal, uses IPS tech to deliver balanced and vibrant colours and it’s a pleasure to use. On larger budget laptops like this, it’s a blessing.
Add in solid build quality courtesy of an all-metal chassis and a comfortable keyboard and touchpad combo and you have one of the best-value big-screen laptops around. Even the speakers are okay, delivering “surprisingly rich, full-bodied audio that puts many rivals to shame”, according to our original review.
The only thing we don’t like about the Honor MagicBook Pro is the positioning of the webcam: as with its Huawei laptop cousins it’s set under a key in the top row of the keyboard and it shoots at a rather unflattering angle.
Aside from that, though, this is a cracking deal on a cracking laptop. Grab one while you still can.
