Amazon Echo deal: Brand-new Echo AND six months of Spotify Premium for just £60

A brilliant speaker with free music – what’s not to love?

It feels like weeks since I reviewed Amazon’s third-generation Echo. That, it turns out, is because it’s true given said review went live on 16 October. And I really liked it, giving it a five-star recommendation at its £89 price. It inherited the sound quality of the Echo Plus for £50 cheaper. What’s not to like?

Well, now it’s even more appealing, thanks to a price cut and a rather tempting freebie courtesy of Currys PC World. The site is not only selling the third-generation Echo for £60, but throwing in six months of Spotify Premium to sweeten the deal. Given six months of Spotify Premium will set you back £60 on its own, you can either look at this as a free Echo or free Spotify. Whatever helps you to justify the expenditure.

Okay, there’s an important caveat: the free Spotify is only open to people who haven’t used Premium before – either paying or in the form of a trial. And, of course, you’ll be on the hook for a full-price membership once the trial expires if you don’t cancel ahead of time. Fairly standard stuff.

And what of the third-generation Echo itself? It’s great. It inherits the 3in neodymium woofer and 0.8in tweeter from the excellent second-generation Echo Plus, and it sounds wonderful for the price.

As I wrote in my review: “This remains the best all-round smart speaker you can buy with the added bonus of sound quality that’s nigh-on impossible to match in the price bracket.

“Yes, Alexa isn’t as smart as Google Assistant but, in terms of hardware, it’s now streets ahead of the Google Home. That makes it an easy recommendation at £89.”

With free Spotify and a cheaper price point, it’s now even easier.
