Get the Amazon Echo Show 8 for its lowest price ever in Amazon’s End of Summer Sale

Amazon’s massive price drop on the newest Echo Show 8, one of the best Alexa-ready devices for video calling, is not to be missed

There are some great savings to be had in Amazon’s End of Summer Sale, but one of the best deals by far is on the Amazon Echo Show 8 (2nd gen), which has been given its biggest price drop to date.

In our full Echo Show 8 review, we gave this upgraded device a full five stars, concluding that “It’s hard to fault the latest Echo Show 8; it’s a marvellous product with a sensible set of improvements”.

While it might not have been worth upgrading to the latest model when it was full price, now that it’s available for just £85 down from £120, upgrading is a no-brainer.

The most significant improvement on the new model is the front camera. It now has 13 times more megapixels than its predecessor, giving you the same resolution as your average phone selfie camera.

The camera also includes automatic live panning and zooming, essentially following you around the room as you move. We loved this minor adjustment, especially since video-calling has become so integral to our work and home lives.

What’s stayed the same is the classic shape of the Echo Show 8 – it’s still got its 8in touch screen perched atop a wedge-shaped fabric speaker that will seamlessly blend into your home. It’s also got Alexa functionality, allowing you to check the weather, set timers and reminders, ask questions and play music, podcasts and videos from your favourite streaming apps using just your voice.

For those of us that worry about the security of built-in cameras and being listened to by Amazon, they’ve added two features for your peace of mind. The first is a switch that will physically cover the camera when it’s not in use, and the second is a button that cuts the mic out entirely.

Unlike the older model, this one has no 3.5mm audio jack, meaning you can only connect the Echo Show 8 to external Bluetooth speakers. While this is a slight downgrade, the built-in speaker is perfectly adequate for everyday use.

All in all, the Amazon Echo Show 8 is a thoroughly well-designed device that’s seen some great improvements. If you’ve been thinking about buying an Echo Show, now seems to be the best time to invest in one.
