Get a FREE Amazon Echo Show 5 or Echo Dot when you buy a Ring Video Doorbell in the Black Friday sales

The Ring Video Doorbell Pro is not only £80 cheaper – both Amazon and Argos are throwing in Amazon's Echo Show 5 smart speaker for free

Amazon and Argos have a number of Ring Video Doorbell and Amazon Echo bundle deals running as part of their respective Black Friday deals.

The Ring Video Doorbell Pro is not only £80 cheaper on both sites, they’re both throwing in an Amazon Echo Show 5 smart speaker for free when you buy the smart doorbell. This deal runs until 3 December on Argos, but it is unclear when Amazon’s deal will end.

Alternatively, if you don’t want or need the Ring Video Doorbell Pro, you can get the Ring Video Doorbell 2 for £119, down from £179, on Amazon and this comes with a free Amazon Echo Dot

As its name suggests, Amazon’s Ring Video Doorbell Pro is a smart doorbell fitted with a camera that lets you see who’s at your door via your phone, tablet or any smart speaker with a display. It connects to your Wi-Fi network and captures footage in 1080p, automatically recording visitors or people/animals passing using built-in motion sensors.

Thanks to its two-way communication option, you can not only see who’s at the door but also talk to them. This is particularly useful if a delivery arrives and you’re not in the house; you can tell the courier where to leave it or when to come back.

The Ring Doorbell Pro usually retails for £229, which is £50 more than the £179 Ring Video Doorbell 2 – or £140 more than the original 720p Ring Doorbell – but it does come with a Chime (£29) in the box, while the cheaper options do not.

Elsewhere, Amazon’s Echo Show 5 is an Alexa-powered smart speaker with a 5.5in touchscreen that can be used, in addition to seeing who is at your door via the Ring doorbell, to make video calls or watch online videos. It’s the smaller, cheaper version of the 10in Amazon Echo Show, retailing at £80 compared to the larger model’s £229.

This means the Argos/Amazon deal gets you a Ring Video Doorbell Pro and Echo Show 5 for a combined price of £149, whereas the two usually retail for a total of £309 when sold separately.

Be aware, though, that you will need to pay extra to have the Ring Video Doorbell Pro professionally installed by an electrician as it runs off the mains rather than batteries. Amazon charges £120 for professional installation, pushing the total price to £269. You can likely get this cheaper by using someone local, but it’s worth noting.

It should also be noted that the Amazon Echo Show 5, when bought separately, is on offer at £50. This means that if you’re not fussed about getting the Pro version of the Ring Video Doorbell, it actually works out better value to get the Ring Video Doorbell 2, which comes with an Echo Dot, and buying the Echo Show 5 separately for a total price of £170.
