Ahead of the release of its Echo Show 8 next month, Amazon has dropped the price of the smart speaker’s predecessor, the Echo Show (2nd Gen).

The Echo Show 2, also known as the Echo Show (2018) is the second-generation model of Amazon’s original smart speaker with a display range.

Building on the first model, the Echo Show has improved speakers, a 10in HD screen as well as a fabric design.

It lets you stream content from Apple Music, Spotify and Audible, you can watch films and TV shows from Prime Video, catch-up with the news, make hands-free video calls over Wi-Fi, and Vodafone customers can link the speaker to their account to make mobile calls on their plan.

One of the biggest additions to the Echo Show 2 over its predecessor was support for 2-way Ring Doorbell audio. As with all Echo devices, the Echo Show 2 comes with Amazon Alexa built-in.

In our five-star Echo Show 2 review, Reviews Editor Jon Bray said: “The Echo Show 2 is a big improvement on the original. The screen is bigger and brighter, and the quality is better. It looks and feels nicer to use, too, and it sounds pretty damned good.”

If you’d prefer to buy the Echo Show 8 and don’t mind waiting a couple of weeks until its 8 December release date, Amazon has also dropped the price of this brand new device. It’s currently available for £60, which represents a discount of 50% versus the RRP of £120.
