Amazon has chucked a deep discount onto the fourth generation Amazon Echo Dot, cutting it from £50 down to £28.99 and making it a no brainer if you’ve been thinking about getting some smart speakers.
The fourth generation Echo Dot is punching above its weight even at a £50 price point, so at this new cut-rate it’s a steal and could be a great starter if you’re keen to try out a smart speaker set-up. While the previous Dot was a bit uninspiring looks-wise, I’m quite into the globe design however, and the deal is for all three colourways: Twilight Blue, Charcoal and Glacier White.
In our five-star review on Expert Reviews, Alan Martin highlights the great design, the clearer sound and says that the Echo Dot has better sound than dedicated £50 speakers. He claims that the fourth gen upgrade isn’t as big a step forward as previous iterations “but only because there was nothing screaming out for improvement. It was already our favourite small smart speaker, and now it looks nicer with better sound for the same low price.” He also picks out the line in/out jack as a real winner.
An Alexa-enabled device should integrate pretty neatly with most smart home apps, and you can also stream music from Amazon Music, Apple Music, Spotify and a few other streaming services, too. If you’re worried about privacy, there is a Microphone Off button that electronically disconnects the microphones.
With the price being nearly halved, it’s a good opportunity to pick up a few and put them down in different rooms, meaning you can get Alexa to cover your entire house if you fancy it. This deal also includes the Echo Dot with the clock too, with that model going for £39.99. The entire Echo range has some discounts currently, but this is by far the best deal in the range right now.
