Amazon has knocked up to £14 off the new Apple Watch SE for Black Friday

For a limited time you can buy the Apple Watch SE – the 'lite' version of the Apple Watch Series 6 – for just £258

For a limited time you can buy the Apple Watch SE – the ‘lite’ version of the Apple Watch Series 6 – for just £258 as part of Amazon’s Black Friday sale

This is for the 40mm version, which usually retails for £269. Or you can buy the 44m model for £285, down from £299.

These savings may only equate to £11 and £14 respectively, but considering Apple products are rarely reduced because they hold their value so well, these are not deals to be sniffed at.

Especially if you’ve been looking to buy the Apple Watch SE or upgrade from an older Apple Watch model.

The Apple Watch SE is the first ‘lite’ Watch Apple has produced and it’s the cheapest new smartwatch the firm has ever launched.

It’s remarkably similar to the Apple Watch Series 6 – despite being £110 cheaper – but with some notable omissions.

It doesn’t have the Series 6’s always-on display. The Watch SE’s screen turns off when you’re not looking at it and only switches on when you raise your wrist or tap the screen.

There are fewer colours to choose from when buying the Apple Watch SE, the latter only being available in silver, grey, and gold.

You also don’t get the SpO2 blood-oxygen measurement feature, the ECG tools, or the always-on altimeter available on Series 6.

But that’s it. For all other intents and purposes, the Watch SE can do everything the Series 6 can. It runs Watch OS 7 and has GPS, motion sensors, an altimeter, and a heart rate tracker. It’s just as water-resistant, too, down to 50m, so you can use it for swimming.

As our Reviews Editor, Jon Bray writes in his Apple Watch SE review: ”The Apple Watch SE is another top-quality smartwatch from Apple. It fills a gap in the range between the now rather aged Series 3 and the all-singing, all-dancing Series 6.

For me, it strikes the perfect balance. It’s every bit the great smartwatch the Series 6 is, minus the advanced health features, always-on screen, and fast charging, but at a much-reduced price.

If you own an iPhone and don’t fancy splashing out £379 for the full-fat Apple Watch experience, the Watch SE is a superb choice and a very tempting alternative.”
