2022 is starting strong with this AMAZING Apple Watch deal

The Apple Watch Series 6 celebrates the new year by dropping back to its all-time low Black Friday price

If you missed out on any of the great Apple Watch deals available during either the Black Friday or Boxing Day sales, the third time could indeed be the charm for you. As part of its January sale, John Lewis has cut the price of the Apple Watch Series 6 by a massive £100, bringing it back down to the all-time low Black Friday price of just £279.

The specific model on offer here is the 40mm Wi-Fi only version, in Product Red. The discount comes courtesy of John Lewis reducing to clear stock, so it goes without saying that there is a clock on this bargain. To avoid disappointment, be sure to snatch yours up while stocks last.

While not the latest iteration of smartwatches in Apple’s lineup (that honour goes to the Series 7, launched late last year), the Series 6 is far from obsolete. As a matter of fact, we noted in our review of the Series 7 that the improvements it made upon its predecessors were incremental enough that there was no real hurry to upgrade.

In terms of advances over the Series 5, there are a few improvements of note. First, the always-on screen is considerably brighter, to the point where the difference between live and always-on displays is negligible. Inside, the Series 6 is powered by Apple’s faster S6 chipset, which is based on the A13 processor first used in the iPhone 11. On the underside, you’ll find an array of eight LEDs and sensors arranged in a square, replacing the old central sensor encircled by a ring of LEDs setup.

Working in tandem, the faster processor and advanced sensor array offer a broader range of capabilities, with highlights including the long-awaited implementation of sleep tracking and timely improvements to spO2 monitoring. As well as spot-check readings available by firing up the app, the watch will also take periodic background readings, allowing you to build up a stronger picture of your overall blood-oxygen levels and keep an eye on trends.

As with all of Apple’s smartwatch offerings, our only real complaint here is the relatively short battery life. Clocking in at roughly one full day, it’s by no means a deal-breaker, especially if you’re in the routine of charging your devices overnight anyway, but it still feels lacking when compared to other models that can last weeks on a single charge.

If £100 off isn’t enticing enough, John Lewis is also one of many retailers that offer discounts on new Apple products when you trade in your old ones. In this case, you can save up to £120 when trading in an old Apple Watch, meaning that a brand new Series 6 could end up costing you as little as £159.
