This Fitbit Alta HR deal drops the price to £80

The discount is part of Amazon's mega Spring Sale

The Fitbit Alta HR is one of our favourite devices from the eponymous wearable technology specialist.

The main reason for this is that it gets the basics absolutely right. The Alta HR is no bigger or weightier than it needs to be, but still packs in all the features you’d expect from a mid-range fitness tracker.

Indeed, our reviews editor Jonathan’s original review described how “the combination of Alta HR and Fitbit app is difficult to beat”.

The Alta HR normally retails on Amazon for a relatively affordable £110, but it just got even cheaper. Thanks to Amazon’s mega Spring Sale, you can currently purchase the tracker for just £80. We’ve done the maths for you – that’s a £30 discount.

A good offer it may be, but it has to be said that it’s not a one-off: shop around a little bit and you should easily be able to find the Alta HR for under the £100 mark. Indeed, we wrote a story just a few months ago outlining exactly the same deal on Amazon.

The Alta HR also has its drawbacks: it won’t count the number of stairs you’ve climbed, unlike the Charge series, and it doesn’t offer swim tracking in the same way that more recent devices do. There’s also no built-in GPS and no option to piggyback from your phone.

If you’d like these features, then you’d probably be better off shelling out an extra £10 for the Alta HR’s replacement, the brand-new Fitbit Inspire HR.

At £90, we reckon the Inspire HR is Fitbit’s best-value tracker ever. It’s similar in design to the Alta HR, and comes with the added bonuses of connected GPS and swim tracking.

Don’t get me wrong: the Alta HR is a very good fitness tracker and the deal outlined above is a decent one. However, if all you’re after is a smart fitness band to track your steps, sleep and general fitness level, there’s not a better-value device out there at the moment than the Inspire HR.
