Save £40 on the Garmin Forerunner 245 Music

Hard to beat beats

The Garmin Forerunner 245 hasn’t been out for too long – our review is from August – but already you can get it for a decent discount.

The best deal at the moment comes from sporting goods store Wiggle, which is selling the Forerunner 245 for £220, and the 245 Music for £270. That’s a saving of £30 on each, but if you’re a new customer you can also get a further £10 off using the discount code NEWGB. So £2010 and £260 respectively, then.

So should you buy at this price? Well, there’s an argument to hold off until Black Friday at the end of the month, but if you’re after a running watch today, then the Forerunner 245 should steer your right.

A direct replacement for the four-year-old Forerunner 235, it continues in the Garmin tradition of absorbing features from more expensive models of years past. In this case, it gets a lighter design, more in-depth training analysis, new sports modes (hello swimming and strength training) and it even gives you live running technique analysis if you happen to be wearing a compatible footpod.

This might be overkill for some people, but it’s a big step up from £170 Forerunner 45, and not that big a drop from the ageing Forerunner 645 (now around £300) which puts it in a pretty good place at this price.

As Nick wrote in our review: “It’s a brilliant all-round running watch, and runners who won’t be satisfied by its features will be few and far between.” He went on to give it five stars and a coveted Expert Reviews ‘recommended’ award.

“Whether you opt for the music variant or not, there is arguably no more complete GPS watch available for less than £300. There are cheaper alternatives, but only if you can live without music playback and such in-depth sports tracking.”
