The Garmin Forerunner 645 Music is now crazy cheap

One of the best running watches of recent years is now yours for under £200

We’re still a week away from Black Friday, but if you’ve been holding out for a Garmin deal, you’re already pretty well served. Follow that link and you’ll find tempting prices on the latest additions to the Vivoactive, Forerunner, Instinct and Fenix range – but here’s an impressive discount on an older member of the Garmin family.

Right now at Argos, you can buy the Garmin Forerunner 645 Music for £199.99. To put that into some context, when the running watch was first released last February, it sold for £399.99, and while its gone for less recently, it’s still a substantial discount of around £100 to £150.

So should you buy a running watch that’s over a year old? I personally think that’s a pretty safe bet. Unlike phones where the technology moves fast and new features are constantly being added to later models, running watch progress is quite a bit slower. The Garmin Forerunner 645 Music may not be as good looking as the recent Vivoactive 4, but it’s still very good at what you actually want it for: tracking runs and working on your training program.

And because it’s the Music model, there’s no need to run with your phone. Just download a Spotify playlist to the watch’s internal storage, connect some wireless headphones and you’re good to go. It supports Garmin Pay via the NFC chip, so you can make payments from the wrist too, if your bank is supported (this is by no means guaranteed unless you’re with Santander, but hardly a deal breaker either way).

As I wrote in my review: “There’s really not much bad I can say about the Garmin Forerunner 645 Music, other than the fact that it’s pretty expensive and – if you’re a casual runner like me – the data it provides is probably overkill.

“I have lots of review watches on my desk, and when I lace up this is the one I instinctively grab. That says a great deal about the quality, comfort and style of the Garmin 645 Music. It’s one very special running watch.”

Since then, my 645 Music has sadly gone back, so I might actually buy this myself. At under £200, it’s a steal.
