The £15 Echo Input deal is simply the best Prime Day offer

Adding Alexa to your own speakers has never been easier ... or cheaper with Amazon's amazing £15 Echo Input deal

As usual, Amazon’s Prime Day sales is littered with amazing discounts on Amazon’s own products, but we reckon the deal on the Amazon Echo Input is the best of the lot. It’s a mere £15, down from the regular price of £35, and it’s the cheapest way of introducing yourself to the charms of Amazon Alexa we’ve ever seen.

If you haven’t heard of the Echo Input (and we can’t say that we blame you if you haven’t), it’s a relatively simple concept. Think of it as an Echo Dot but without the speaker and you’re pretty much there.

It has the same far-field four-microphone array as the Dot and the same circular shape (but a lot thinner). All you need to do is add your own speaker and, hey presto, you have your very own hybrid Echo audio system.

Aside from the lack of speakers, the main difference between the Dot and the Echo Input is that the controls are simpler. The only buttons are one for muting the microphone and one for activating Alexa without the wake phrase and re-pairing. Otherwise, though, it’s 100% Alexa, just like on all of Amazon’s other Echo devices.

You can connect your own speakers in a couple of different ways. For the best possible audio quality you can use the Input’s 3.5mm output jack, but it’s also possible to hook up to your older Bluetooth speakers using the Echo Input’s Bluetooth transmission capabilities. Power comes via micro-USB and there’s an adapter included in the box.

It’s a beautifully unobtrusive device and, once you’ve connected it to the mains and hooked it up with your own speakers, you’ll be able to stream music, install Alexa skills and control your smart home devices – all for a ridiculously cheap £15.
