Dyson’s Cordless vacuums are normally out of reach for normal householders, but right now its Dyson V8 is on offer at the lowest price we’ve ever seen. Yes, this is an older model, but it’s still an effective cleaner – and Dyson clearly thinks so as it’s just released an updated V8 (at a much higher price).

According to the historical pricing data, the £180 Cyber Monday price on this vacuum is the lowest it’s been on Amazon – and in all the time I’ve been covering Black Friday I don’t ever remember it being the price dropping this low.

So what do you get for your money? Well, the key with Dyson vacuums is to pay attention to the attachments you get in the box. The motor unit is the same with all V8 models (aside from the redesigned one that has just been released) – but the tools and attachments you get varies, depending on the wording that comes after “V8”.

Dyson is always fiddling around with these names, in an effort to make its vacuums look new or different, but they’re not often very helpful. So I’ve quickly broken down the extras you get with the “Advanced” model below.

  • The main motor brush head: this is for use on carpets, mainly, but can be used on hard floors as well. It’s powered and usually mounted on the end of the long extension wand (also included) for cleaning the floor. This model includes anti-tangle tech to prevent long hair getting wrapped around the bar
  • Crevice tool: Does what it says on the tin. Allows you to clean into corners and tight spaces and fits directly onto the motor unit for handheld use or the extension wand for vacuuming in high places
  • Combination tool: Two tools in one, this combines a soft brush for delicate surfaces with a harder brush for getting stubborn marks out of upholstery
  • Wall dock: The V8 isn’t one of those vacuum cleaners that stands up on its own, so the wall dock is a useful extra, allowing you to hang it on the wall, along with its accessories, while it’s charging
  • Mini motor brush head: A bit of a disappointing omission, this one, as the mini motor head is super useful for vacuuming stairs, matts and rugs. There isn’t one in the box
  • Fluffy roller head: Handy for delicate hard floors, but not essential, this is also not included
  • Articulated extension wand: An extension wand that bends in the middle can be useful for cleaning under low furniture – and Dyson does make one – but, again, it’s not included here

In short, then, the Dyson V8 Advanced on sale this Cyber Monday is good, but it doesn’t include ALL the accessories you might want or need for cleaning the whole house. Still, if you live in a flat or an apartment and don’t have stairs to clean, it’s definitely worth a look.
