The Arlo Pro 2 security camera is going cheap at Amazon
One of the best wireless security solutions around is keenly priced for today only
I’ve been reviewing quite a few security cameras of late, which is something of an irony given I live in a fairly sleepy part of south London where the most interesting thing to trigger the motion sensors are my two aging lazy cats.
Nonetheless, none have impressed me as much as the Arlo Pro 2: a superb wireless security camera solution which has everything you could possibly want in a smart security system.
The one problem is the price: this is far from the cheapest. When I reviewed it last year, you were looking at a single camera and the hub setting you back £290, with four-camera sets pushing £850. It’s true that you can’t put a price on good security, but for most people that would still be pushing it.
But today on Amazon you can get the two-camera Arlo Pro 2 for £399.99 – a very appealing saving on its £569.99 RRP. Amazon will also let you pay in five monthly payments of £80 if that makes it easier to swing.
So what makes the Arlo Pro 2 so appealing? Well for starters, it can be used both indoors and outdoors. For the latter, it has one key advantage too: it’s battery powered, and the battery can be measured in months rather than hours. Charging is simple too: the cameras affix to round magnetic mounts that can be firmly drilled into the wall. That means that when it comes to charge, you can just pluck the cameras off the wall, charge them up and then pop them back.
The footage is crisp, impressive 1080p with night vision, and it comes with some free cloud storage included – 1GB for up to seven days for five cameras. Considering rival Ring charges you per camera for any kind of storage, that’s a good start, but if you need more there are pretty competitive packages from £6.49 per month. And unlike its rivals, you can even upgrade to non-stop 24/7 recording for £12.99 per month.
That’ll be overkill for most people of course, but that’s kind of the point. The Arlo 2 Pro is a professional solution, and for the next few hours that pro solution is going at a non-pro price.
