Brand-new Surface Laptop 3 sees price cut for Black Friday

The Surface Laptop 3 is going cheap in Black Friday deal

The brand-new Surface Laptop 3 – which recently received a coveted Recommended award from us – has already seen a discount for Black Friday. Microsoft has a history of great savings on Black Friday, last year offering some amazing discounts on its (at the time) brand-new Surface Laptop 2. So amazing, in fact, that I myself bought one. It’s been great – no complaints at all from me.

It’s now been superseded by the Laptop 3 – and once again it’s going cheap for Black Friday. The saving gets bigger the higher up the specs chart you get. Sadly only the 13.5in model is reduced, so if you’re holding out for a discount on the 15in model, you’re out of luck for the time being.

The cheapest model of the new Surface Laptop 3 is the 13.5in Core i5 model with 8GB of RAM, 128GB of storage and the platinum Alcantara fabric. That’s down £100 at either Amazon or the Microsoft Store, whichever you prefer: it’s £899 to buy today, rather than the usual £999.

Paying a bit more not only unlocks faster specs, but the metal design. As someone who managed to stain his Alcantara Laptop 2 pretty quickly, I’d definitely recommend this approach. You can get the same specs as above, only with 256GB of internal storage and a metal design (sandstone or black) for £1,142 – a £127 saving on its normal RRP of £1,269. Alcantara in platinum or cobalt blue is also available at the same price.

Now we’re on to the serious hardware: Core i7 processors with 16GB of RAM. You can get the 256GB model for £1,389 (saving £160) and the 512GB version for £1,749 (saving £200) over at John Lewis; or the 1TB beast for £2,114 (saving £235) on the Microsoft Store. Note that the Surface Laptop 3 has no microSD slot, so the amount of storage you choose at time of purchase is the total you’ll be stuck with forever.

Our head of reviews, Jonathan Bray, rather liked the Surface Laptop 3 when he reviewed it for us recently. “If you want a laptop for work and, maybe, a little play, the Microsoft Surface Laptop 3 is a brilliant option with very few significant shortcomings,” he wrote.
