Microsoft slashes the Surface Book 3 for Black Friday

Worth a Surface Look

We’ve already seen some great Microsoft Surface discounts this year, but so far the beefy Surface Book 3 has been left out. That’s finally changed, thanks to Microsoft’s own store and you can save up to £420 on the RRP.

You can purchase your own here, but to give you a little advance warning, these are the configurations available and how much each will set you back:

13.5in Surface Book 3 deals:

  • Intel Core i5, 8GB RAM, 256GB SSD – was £1,599, now £1,269
  • Intel Core i7, 16GB RAM, 256GB SSD – was £1,999, now £1,649
  • Intel Core i7, 32GB RAM, 512GB SSD – was £2,449, now £2,049
  • Intel Core i7, 32GB RAM, 1TB SSD – was £2,699, now £2,429

15in Surface Book 3 deals:

  • Intel Core i7, 16GB RAM, 256GB SSD – was £2,199, now £1,8,79
  • Intel Core i7, 32GB RAM, 512GB SSD – was £2,699, now £2,279
  • Intel Core i7, 32GB RAM, 1TB SSD – was £2,899, now £2,609

(Sidenote: I wouldn’t personally bother with either of the 1TB storage expansions, as the Surface Book 3 has an SD Card slot if you need extra storage in a pinch. The other upgrades at least increase the RAM too, so you’re getting a bit more for your cash.)

Yeah, they’re not cheap by any means, but the Surface Book 3 is a supremely powerful 2-in-1 laptop, and a slightly different proposition to Microsoft’s Surface Pro 7. While the Surface Pro is a tablet that moonlights as a laptop, the opposite is true for the Surface Book and it’s considerably more capable as a result. It packs the GeForce GTX 1650 or 1660Ti GPUs on the i7 models, meaning they’re actually capable of some gaming on the go.

The Surface Book 3 is not without its drawbacks – the result is a device that’s considerably heavier, tipping the scales at 1.64kg and as you can see it’s quite a bit more expensive than Microsoft’s other Surface devices. But thanks to these Black Friday discounts, it’s worth a look if you want a convertible with a bit more grunt than most.
