Samsung Galaxy Watch Active 2 UK release date confirmed – you can preorder it now

Product listings for Samsung’s latest smartwatch have already been spotted in the wild

Last month, Samsung announced the Galaxy Watch Active 2, a replacement for the six-month-old Galaxy Watch Active that introduced a digital rotating dial and ECG monitoring. We can now confirm that the new wearable will be launching pleasingly soon: 20 September, to be exact, according to the many product listings that sprouted yesterday.

First spotted on Amazon by an eagle-eyed TechRadar reader, the Galaxy Watch Active 2 has since begun appearing on a host of UK retail websites, with prices starting at £269 for the 40mm bluetooth-only model. For those of you who prefer not to be tied to your smartphone, 4G LTE 40mm versions start at £399. If you’re after a 44mm watch-face for either one of these two models, you’ll need to pay an extra £20.

The Galaxy Watch Active 2 provides the same suite of fitness- and notification-tracking features as its predecessor, pairing with your Android phone so you can answer calls, read messages and even remotely control your handset’s camera. On the fitness front the Galaxy Watch Active 2 features a heart rate monitor, accelerometer, gyroscope and barometer, as well as the brand-new ECG monitor.

Perhaps more intriguingly, the rotating bezel found on the original Galaxy Watch is back in digital form. Navigating menus now involves twisting a virtual dial left or right, which is an intelligent space-saving replacement for the clunky physical dials of old.

Preorders are currently live at the official Samsung webstore, and you can also make the purchase via AmazonCurrys PC World or Littlewoods. In the US, Samsung wearable fans will have to wait an extra week – the Galaxy Watch Active 2 launches stateside on 27 September.

As a nice little preorder bonus, you’ll receive a free Wireless Charger Duo charging pad, which might come in handy if you’re the proud owner of, say, a Samsung Galaxy S10 or Note 10.
