Samsung Smart View turns Galaxy S2 and Tab into TV

With a 7000- or 8000- series Samsung TV, you can use your Galaxy S2 or Tab to watch live TV

Samsung has released its Smart View app on the Android Market to turn its Galaxy S2 smartphone into a TV. Unfortunately, there’s a catch: you need to own a Smart TV D8000 or a D7000 television for it to work.

The app, which will become available for the Galaxy Tab later in the year allows you to watch what’s on the TV screen via Wi-Fi. It can either create a direct Wi-Fi link between the TV and phone or via your wireless router.

One of the app’s best features is the ability to select the video source from a list of the TV’s inputs. This would allow you to see the video (and hear the audio) from your Xbox 360 or Blu-ray player while someone else watches live TV on the D8000 or D7000.

Another feature is the ability to carry on watching a programme even if the TV is put in standby mode. It’s also possible to turn the main TV on and off from the app while continuing to watch a live broadcast.
