Sennheiser MM 60 iPhone review

Verdict:

A reasonably good set of headphones for smartphone users, but we'd expect better audio quality at this price.

Sennheiser's MM 60 iPhone headphones work with any device that has a standard 3.5mm headphone jack, but they also come with an extension lead that has an integrated inline remote and a mic for iPhone and BlackBerry smartphones.

This allows you to control music playback and answer calls but, disappointingly, not adjust the volume. An almost identical pair is also available that works with Nokia smartphones.

The MM 60s are lightweight headphones. They look a bit cheap, but feel sturdy enough. A carry case is included, but it's so fiddly to use that Sennheiser has printed instructions on how to use it on the lid. The padding on the earpieces wasn't as thick as we'd like, but they're still comfortable to wear for long periods.

The open drivers mean the MM60s leak noise, which could prove annoying for those around you, but they're by no means the leakiest headphones we've heard. Audio quality was generally good, but could be better. Instruments didn't sound quite as rich and warm as we'd like, especially in jazz and blues tracks. There's a reasonable amount of bass and volume, but not quite enough to please fans of bass-heavy tracks. Thankfully, vocals were clear and didn't distort at high volumes.

Sennheiser's MM 60 headphones are attractive if you want a set for use with a smartphone, but the audio quality wasn't as good as we'd expect at this price. We'd rather buy Jay's similarly priced s-JAYS and a separate smartphone mic and remote adaptor, such as Griffin's SmartTalk instead.
